Plant Habit
- Leaves: up to 120 cm long, 5 cm wide
- Inflorescence: fewer-flowered than the typical variety
- Bloom: 8-11 cm wide, larger than the typical variety, more red
- Plant: larger than the typical variety
Habitat Data
- Distribution: Phrag. lindleyanum var. sargentianum, "is a native of the Pernambuco Province of Brazil, no doubt from its mountainous interior, and probably from the chain of the Cariris or Tabatinga, which are clothed with forests." (Hooker 1895)
- Elevation: 650-850 m
- Peak Flowering in the Wild: August-November
- Ecology: near the bases of trees or in rocky niches amongst grasses on 30° granite slopes
- Mean Temperature Range: 18-23°C
- Light: light-moderate shade
- Medium: thick layer of leaf mould, humus
- Water: constant moisture, plants found in or near water seepages
