- Etymology: "The specific epithet means longitudinally striped and probably refers to the yellow leaf margins, although the illustration in the original description does not show this feature." (McCook 1989a)

Plant Habit
- Leaves: 30-55 cm long, 2-4 cm wide, margins yellow
- Inflorescence: 3-6 flowered, unbranched, blooming sequentially, 50-80 cm long, dark brown-purple, sparsely hirsute
- Bloom: greenish-purple to pale yellow-brown
- Plant: rhizomes short, plants clumped

- Elevation: 875-1600 m
- Peak Flowering in the Wild: October-March
- Ecology: found in peat bogs (Fowlie 1973) and "on rocky wet slopes and on rocks along creek margins" (McCook 1989a)
